Memory Patchwork Cushion Workshop: Wednesday 13th July

£75.00
Vintage patchwork items, quilts or cushions or bags, are loaded with memories. The fabric used to create them would have had a life or maybe several lives before being incorporated in to a patchwork. This recycling of fabric is the basis for modern memory patchwork.  Christine often uses shirts, pyjamas, skirts and dresses in her patchwork, items found at car boot sales or passed on to her by friends and family. This course is a perfect introduction to patchwork using special pieces of fabric; this could be clothing; someone’s shirt or a dress, or a tie, or a piece of furnishing fabric, items which are reminders of a person or moment. You will learn how to create a simple but effective design that could become a cushion cover or, if you prefer, it could be the start of a larger piece.   Skills Covered Recycling clothing to create something beautiful and practical Developing a design that is simple to assemble Combining different fabrics Using features of the items within the design Hand knotted quilting   Please Bring A selection of cotton clothing or fabrics, including a man’s shirt if possible - avoid knitted or stretchy fabrics. A piece of 100% cotton fabric that will form the backing of the patchwork panel A piece of thin wadding to quilt the patchwork Embroidery thread for hand knotting All sewing tools needed will be in the workroom but please feel free to bring along your own kit if you prefer. We will be using fabric scissors, rotary cutters, quilting rule, needles and pins.   White cotton thread will be in the sewing machines for you to use - if you prefer to use another colour please bring this with you (or you can purchase thread on the day from our store).   This course is suitable for beginners and intermediate stitchers who are familiar with a sewing machine - simple straight stitch is all that is required.   Tutor: Christine Green   Class size: 10   Date: Wednesday 13th July 2022, 10.00am - 4.00pm   Cancellation Policy:   All workshops must be paid in full at time of booking in order to secure your place.   All bookings are non refundable but we will offer store credit (redeemable on future classes or store goods) if you notify us within 15 days of the scheduled workshop date. This store credit is valid for a period of 12 months from the date of issue. We are unable to make any exceptions to this policy, regardless of customer reason.   In order for a workshop to go ahead we require a minimum number of attendees due to the costs incurred by us in hiring tutors, purchasing class supplies/equipment etc...  If for any reason the class is cancelled we will offer you a full refund or a place on the class the next time it is scheduled.  If you decide to move onto a future class our offer of a refund is withdrawn and these cancellation policies apply to the new booking (i.e. if you are subsequently unable to attend your new class date a refund does not apply).
