Bring a touch of spring into your home with this lovely Honey House cushion. This kit features some beautiful Organic Liberty prints, teamed with classic and plain Liberty Tana Lawn®, for you to create a gorgeous new addition for your home, or favourite garden chair.
The construction of this cushion combines a mixture of techniques – English Paper Piecing (EPP) and raw edge appliqué. If new to EPP, you will find that it is quite a simple (and addictive!) way to hand sew. Raw edge appliqué is a bit like collaging with fabric and whilst easy to do, it does require some concentration and a slower speed setting on your machine, if possible. You can make the stitching as intricate, or as simple as you like, defining petals and leaves for extra texture and visual drama. We have included stitching detail guides to show how the raw edge appliqué method can be used to great effect. In addition to this, you could use metallic threads to stitch the vein detail onto the bee’s wings for some added shimmer, and use beads, or extra embroidery to further embellish the flower spray.
This Honey House cushion kit includes coloured Liberty Tana Lawn® fabric and Liberty Organic Tana Lawn® fabric for the appliqué and EPP. Quality ivory quilting cotton for the background and cushion back.
Fully illustrated pattern, full size templates and instructions included.
You will need: Scissors, pins, sewing machine, hand sewing needle and thread, Pilot Frixion Gel Pen (or any other heat-erasable fabric marker, but always test on scrap fabric first according to manufacturer instructions), thread to match each fabric being appliquéd, standard crafting glue stick (such as a Pritt stick).
Optional: water-soluble fabric glue pen, free-motion quilter’s foot, spray starch
Cushion pad: 18” (45.7cm) square
Iron-on transfer adhesive (such as Bondaweb): approx. 191⁄2” x 161⁄2” (49.5cm x 42cm)
Optional wadding: 191⁄2” x 191⁄2” (49.5cm x 49.5cm), use to add extra body to the cushion front.
Finished size: 18” x 18” (45.7cm x 45.7cm)
