Visible mending is so on trend and popular and this is the perfect opportunity for you to find out why and have a go. Inspired by Japanese Boro, it involves hand stitching, few rules and the opportunity to slow down and be in the moment. Visible mending celebrates the wear and tear that your clothes can acquire, and adds character. It also takes the pressure off trying to make your mends invisible.
Boro is a Japanese patching technique that was used to extend the life of domestic textiles. Clothes, quilts and futon covers were patched and repatched many times using simple patches and running stitch. You will learn how to use different patching methods and the joy of slow stitching and how rewarding mending can be. You don’t need lots of space or specialist tools for successful visible mending.
You will need:
Something that needs patching - jeans with holes in the knees or thin areas are perfect, (NOT stretch denim jeans or knitwear/socks).
If you don't have clothing which needs repairing you can learn the techniques on a sample of cloth.
A selection of threads - embroidery, sashiko, cotton perle, traditionally BORO uses cream, white, blue and grey threads but you can use any colour and make your mends as individual as you! Threads will be available in the workshop but please feel free to bring your own if you wish.
Fabric scraps for patches - we will have fabric available in the workshop but bring along your own if you wish.
Please bring a thimble if you prefer to stitch with one.
Suitable for all levels.

In booking a place on one of our classes you confirm that you have read and agree to all terms and conditions set out below.
All workshops must be paid in full at time of booking in order to secure your place.
All bookings are non-refundable and non-cancellable. We will however, where we can, offer a store credit (redeemable on future classes or store goods) if you notify us no less than one calendar month before the scheduled workshop date. This store credit is valid for a period of 12 months from the date of issue. We are unable to make any exceptions to this policy, regardless of customer reason.
In order for a workshop to go ahead we require a minimum number of attendees due to the costs incurred by us in hiring tutors, purchasing class supplies/equipment etc... If for any reason the class is cancelled by us (due to unforeseen circumstances) we will offer you a full refund or a place on the class the next time it is scheduled. If you decide to move onto a future class our offer of a refund is withdrawn and these cancellation policies apply to the new booking (i.e. if you are subsequently unable to attend your new class date a refund does not apply).
